Thank you to Sean Adcock, for pointing me to this forum.

A few years ago, when we were building our garden, we offered members of the DSWA accommodation in Villa Peixe Rei, in exchange for a few hours of walling every morning.

The result was a great success, and we now have a beautiful stone wall surrounding our garden.

In 2011, we would like to embark on a larger project. The wall around our orange farm is totally deteriorated, and we would like to start rebuilding it.

In order to achieve that we would like to repeat our bartering offer: free accommodation at our villa, with breakfast, in exchange for 4 hours of walling in the morning.

Our plan is to have 4 couples (dry waller and spouse) per week, starting May 7 until June 1, and again September 3 to 24.

Each couple can choose to stay as many weeks as they like.

Rooms will be assigned on a first come first serve basis, from best (2 rooms with private bathroom, and 2 rooms sharing a bathroom: first with double bed and second with twin beds. Check inside photos links below)

Lunch and dinner can be collectively cooked in the existing kitchen, or there are various good restaurants in the area.

To have an idea of what the Villa looks like, you can check these photos of the Villa's exterior:

A german retired teacher, that lives in a second unit during the winter, recently posted this YouTube montage:

The wall we want to rebuild, has not been repaired for a long time, as this skill disappeared in Portugal, with the advent of concrete bricks and metal fencing. This is what it looks like at present:

Villa Peixe Rei is located 4 Km from Olhao, a fishing town of 25 thousand. From where you can take a ferry to some of the most secluded beaches in the Algarve.

One can go to the local fish market and buy the fish caught that very night. (This link gives you a YouTube view of the fish, the vegetable markets...)

Below are some links for you to have an idea of the place. This satellite view shows the location of Villa Peixe Rei, surrounded by the seven thousand orange trees. South from there you can find Olhao from this satellite view.

Beaches to drive to are about 15 minutes (Fuzeta) and 30 minutes (Faro):

If you know of some members of the DSWA interested in this barter, please pass on the information.

Yours truly:

Martin and Cerilia Silva

My name is Brittny Tyler, I am 19 years old and in October I passed my initial certification
through the DSWA. I am currently the first female in the states to hold this
certificate. Last summer I interned with Jared Flynn and we worked closely
with Dan Snow. This summer (2011) I am very interested in walling overseas.
I have talked with many people, but so far nothing has arisen.

So, I am writing to you because I saw this wonderful opportunity in Portugal. I would
love to get more information because I am very interested in this wonderful experience.
My email address is btyler2@vtc.edu.

Thank you very much,
Best wishes
Brittny Tyler
